AI brand films — what European brands actually need in 2026

A practical guide to commissioning AI-generated brand films: shot lists, model choice (Veo, Runway, Kling), licensing, voiceover, edit, and how to brief one without burning a week on prompts.

AI brand films stopped being a novelty in 2025. Right now I'm shipping 30-second hero films for European fashion, food and fintech brands for roughly one tenth of what the same script would cost as a live shoot. This is what the workflow actually looks like.

When AI film is the right call

  • Brand films where the look is stylised or surreal
  • Product launches where you need 6 cut-downs in 8 ratios, fast
  • Pre-vis and pitch films before greenlighting a real shoot
  • Editorial content for paid social where freshness matters more than fidelity

It's not the right call for: anything where a recognisable person has to talk to camera, anything regulated (pharma, finance disclosures), or anything where the brand explicitly forbids generative assets. Always check the contract.

The pipeline I use

1. Script and shot list

Same as a live shoot. Locked script, locked shot list, locked aspect ratios. The mistake most teams make is jumping into prompts before the story is locked — you end up with beautiful disconnected clips and no film.

2. Model selection

Veo 3 for cinematic narrative shots, Runway Gen-4 for stylised work and motion control, Kling for action and human movement, Nano Banana / Gemini for still keyframes that get animated. Most films use 2–3 models in the same edit.

3. Voiceover and score

ElevenLabs for VO drafts, real voice talent for final. Score from a curated library or commissioned — never from generative audio for client work, the IP picture is still murky in the EU under the AI Act.

4. Edit and grade

DaVinci Resolve. Same colour science as a live shoot. The generative output is treated as raw footage, not a finished film.

Licensing and the EU AI Act

Under the EU AI Act, AI-generated content used in advertising must be disclosed in certain contexts. I deliver every film with a provenance log (model, prompt, seed, date) so the brand's legal team can sign it off. Output rights are commercial under the standard plans of Veo, Runway and Kling.

How to brief one

One page. Brand, audience, message, mandatories, three reference films, target duration, deadline. That's it. For an example of the cinematic register I work in, see the Britannia 'Pure Magic' campaign — and the films reel has a current cut of recent work.

AI film is not cheaper film. It's faster iteration on the look, before you spend the money.
